My name is Amy Whitley and this is my 10th year in teaching. I have taught 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade and am starting my third year as an ESL teacher.
I have lived in North Carolina almost my whole life--there was a time that I lived and worked on a dude ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for six months after I graduated from college.
I grew up in New Bern, NC and both of my parents started their professional lives as educators by teaching high school biology--my dad is now a dentist so I will be happy to talk to you about what it's like to give out toothbrushes for Halloween as a child!
When I was in the fourth grade, I dreamed of being an architect like Frank Lloyd Wright and then I also wanted to be an archaeologist because I was fascinated with mummies, the Egyptian pyramids and King Tut!
I went to UNC-Chapel Hill for college and ECU for graduate school. I have a B.A. in Journalism and a Master of Arts in Teaching for grades K-6.
In my free time, I love to cook, sleep in on the weekends, drink tea, go camping and swimming.
